Nvidia's new AI chip has been delayed due to design flaws, which could impact customers like Microsoft, Google and Meta.

The delay is expected to be at least three months, pushing shipments from October 2024 to 2025. The Blackwell chip series, unveiled in March, is meant to succeed the flagship Grace Hopper Superchip.

Nvidia has informed Microsoft and another major cloud service provider of the delay, citing production issues.

Nvidia's new AI chip has been delayed due to design flaws, which could impact customers like Microsoft, Google and Meta. Here are the details:

Delay durations: The delay is expected to be at least three months, pushing shipments from October 2024 to 2025.

Reason: The delay is due to design flaws in the upcoming AI chips.

Impact: The delay could affect customers such as Meta Platforms, Alphabet's Google and Microsoft, which have collectively ordered tens of billions of dollars' worth of chips.

Nvidia's statement: "As we've stated before, Hopper demand is very strong, broad Blackwell sampling has started, and production is on track to ramp in the second half," an Nvidia spokesperson said.

Customer response

The delay could affect customers such as Meta, Google and Microsoft, who have collectively ordered tens of billions of dollars' worth of chips

- Microsoft said it “had nothing to add”, and Google and Meta did not respond to queries.

- The delay means big shipments aren’t expected until the first quarter of 2025.

- Nvidia's share prices surged nearly 13% on August 1, adding around $330 billion in stock market value to the chip maker, in a record one-day gain for any company on Wall Street.
